Exodus – The Story of Redemption

Wednesdays at the Adams Home

Supper: 6:00 PM, Study: 7:00 PM

The connection between our New Testament Christian faith, and the forgiveness and salvation that has been provided through Christ and the cross, and the historical record of humanity, and more specifically the Jewish nation, which is the Old Testament is immense. And yet it is a connection that is so often deemphasized, if not neglected. There is a richness of context and foundation and foreshadowing that God has providentially revealed through the Old Testament that lays a foundation for the Christian faith and should serve to strengthen and embolden the faith of the follower of Christ.

Often, we as Christians understandably lean heavily in our study of scripture on the writings of the New Testament. But there is an importance in also understanding how the New Testament faith in Christ is grounded in the Old Testament. There is a symmetry that exists between the Old and New Testaments that reveals the providential plan of God that has been consistently and persistently unfolding from the beginning of time as recorded in the account of creation in Genesis 1.

Years ago, the Young Adults studied the book of Genesis. But now we will turn our attention to the book that follows Genesis. And that is Exodus. Exodus records the miraculous adventurous unfiltered and sometimes shocking history of the Jewish nation, and, by extension, of the new covenant Christian faith. Exodus records the amazing story of how God providentially and sovereignly comes to the Hebrew people to rescue them and abide with them and provide for them and shepherd them and protect them and deliver them. The miraculous power of God is seen widely across this historical record of the deliverance of the Hebrew people.

So prepared to be amazed at how God shows up and reveals himself in the story of the Exodus. And look for the aspects of the story of the Exodus that foreshadow Christ, the promised Redeemer, and the cross.

And please pray that God would use this study to reveal himself to us through scripture in a way that is only possible through the power and work of the Holy Spirit. I hope that you will grow in your excitement as we begin this study through Exodus.

Open to all young adults—bring your Bible and a friend!
